Overview

The Inclusive Elementary Education MAT is a 33-hour fully online program designed for those who wish to become classroom teachers at the elementary level and who have already earned a bachelor’s degree in an area other than education. This program is designed to be completed in one year and includes six hours of internship that students must satisfy through placement in a residency partner district where the student receives mentoring from a cooperating teacher and receives support and supervision from a university supervisor.

At the conclusion of the program, students are eligible for a 5-year renewable teaching license in elementary education (K-6) and an endorsement in special education.

Professional Licensure Disclosure:

Programs at The University of Southern Mississippi are designed to meet the professional competency standards for licensure in Mississippi. It is recommended that students who intend to seek licensure verify that their program of study meets the licensure requirements of the state in which they intend to seek employment, as noted in the Professional Licensure section of this catalog.

Students seeking information about professional licensure/state certification should also review the Professional Licensure Disclosure page and the related pages setting forth our institutional determination as to whether the programs that lead to professional licensure/state certification meet the educational requirements necessary to lead to licensure in states outside of Mississippi. We also recommend that students contact and obtain guidance from the specific state licensing board.
