Requirements for a Minor

Students minoring in applied music must complete 18 hours as follows: required — six semesters of private applied or group study; and three semesters in an appropriate major ensemble; electives — nine hours chosen from:

MUS 100 - Music Fundamentals 1 hr.
MUS 101 - Music Theory 2 hrs.
MUS 102 - Music Theory 3 hrs.
MUS 201 - Advanced Music Theory 3 hrs.
MUS 307 - History of Music I 3 hrs.
MUS 308 - History of Music II 3 hrs.
MED 331 - Choral Conducting I 1 hr. AND
MED 333 - Choral Conducting II 2 hrs.
or
MED 332 - Instrumental Conducting 2 hrs.

Note:

Students should consult with the SOM minor degree plan to choose either “Option I” or “Option II.”
