Freshman and Sophomore years
Students accepted into the Medical Laboratory Science (MLT to MLS completion) BS degree plan must have graduated from an NAACLS accredited two-year medical laboratory technician program with an associate degree and be nationally certified by a recognized laboratory personnel certifying agency as a Medical Laboratory Technician. Students must have at least 18 months of clinical experience at a hospital or medical laboratory and be able to document proficiency in all laboratory areas. Courses in the Freshman and Sophomore years will be dependent on the medical laboratory technician program of study. Students may transfer 60 hours toward the baccalaureate degree. To complete the Medical Laboratory Science (MLT to MLS completion) BS degree students must satisfy all General Education (GEC) requirements, Program requirements, and Technical Electives as listed in the degree plan. Individual plans will be developed by departmental advisors in consultation with the student upon admission to the program. This program is designed for MLS ASCP certification eligibility via Route 2. Please verify compliance with other certification agencies for eligibility requirements.

Notes:
This degree plan requires a total of 120 hours, of which 60 hours must be from a senior institution, and 30 hours must be 300/400 level. Students must meet all USM General Education Curriculum, Program requirements, and Technical Elective requirements as listed on the degree plan. Please refer to the Undergraduate bulletin or consult a departmental advisor for assitional information about GEC, hours, GPA, and degree progression requirements.
