The Uncrewed Maritime Systems (UMS) certificate program is a unique 10-credit curriculum consisting of three classroom courses and one laboratory course compressed into five weeks. The program provides students with foundational knowledge on the operation of autonomous marine vehicles, and covers topics in ocean science and engineering, including marine instrumentation, electronics, materials, and data technology. Students will study in both the laboratory and field with various types of subsurface and surface systems outfitted with sensors and precision navigation equipment. Classes commence during the second half of the university’s spring semester. Upon successful course completion, students receive a university accredited certificate.
All Uncrewed Maritime Systems certificate courses must be taken at The University of Southern Mississippi.
