Polymer science and engineering is a uniquely interdisciplinary field reliant on fundamental principles drawn from chemistry, physics, materials science, biology, mathematics, chemical and mechanical engineering, and other fields. This convergence of disciplines is essential for advancing the understanding, innovation, and application of polymers in various sectors, including environmental sustainability, energy, healthcare, transportation, construction, coatings, food safety, and textiles, among others.

Our undergraduate experience is distinguished by its intensive hands-on experiential learning, active engagement in research, and abundant professional development opportunities prior to graduation. Our faculty aim to cultivate innovative polymer scientists and engineers who adopt a ‘molecules to materials’ approach in their understanding of polymers, equipping them to tackle the technical and societal challenges of the 21st century. As a leader in the field, we focus on impactful research, strong industry, academic, and government partnerships, and the exceptional performance of our graduates, setting the stage for global recognition of the program and long-term success of its graduates.

The School of Polymer Science and Engineering offers an undergraduate program of study leading to an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degree in polymer science and engineering.
