Doctor of Audiology, Au.D.

The Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree is a clinical doctorate designed to meet the academic and practicum requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The following courses are to be taken by candidates for the Doctor of Audiology degree: SHS 528 , SHS 601 , SHS 621 , SHS 622 , SHS 623 , SHS 625 , SHS 688 , SHS 694 , SHS 701 , SHS 703 , SHS 706 , SHS 708 , SHS 710 , SHS 718 , SHS 721 , SHS 722 , SHS 723 , SHS 724 , SHS 726 , SHS 733 , SHS 735 , SHS 736 , SHS 740 , SHS 743 , SHS 791 , REF 602 , and DPH 625 . Additional elective courses will be determined by the adviser and the department chair. A 3.0 GPA is required for graduation and successful completion of doctoral research project and comprehensive exam.

Advanced Standing

Individuals who meet the following criteria can apply to the Advanced Standing Au.D. program:

  1. hold a masters degree in audiology from an accredited program;
  2. hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology
    (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) for a minimum of
    five contiguous years up to and including the time of application;
  3. have a minimum of 5 years of work experience as an ASHA certified audiologist; and
  4. are employed as an ASHA certified audiologist at the time of application.

Applicants to the Advanced Standing program are accepted on either a full-time or part-time basis. Students complete a 33 hour core and 21 hours of electives in order to fulfill degree requirements (54 hours total). Students must maintain ASHA certification while enrolled in the program. Electives are customized to the needs of individual students based on a qualifying exam, transcripts, and professional work experience; approval by the student’s advisory committee is required. Electives taken outside of the department must be approved by the student’s adviser.
