Campaign and Elections Minor

Students interested in a career in the campaign management field may wish to minor in campaigns and elections. The campaigns and elections minor provides students with a multidisciplinary background that they can employ as a member of a campaign staff. Students will select course work from a number of disciplines including political science, mass communication, communication studies, philosophy, marketing, economics, and accounting and complete a field experience in which they will deploy their accrued knowledge.

Requirements for a Minor

Students minoring in campaigns and elections must complete 21 hours chosen from the approved list of courses:

Required of all Minors

PS 101 - American Government 3 hrs.
PS 493 - Poilitical Science Internship 3 hrs.

Remaining course work (12 hours)

MKT 300 - Principles of Marketing 3 hrs.
MKT 322 - Creative Marketing 3 hrs.
MKT 365 - Consumer Behavior 3 hrs.
MCJ 329 - Introduction to Advertising 3 hrs.
MCJ 421 - Public Relations 3 hrs.
MCJ 424 - Public Opinion, Mass Communication and Society 3 hrs.
CMS 303 - Argumentation and Debate 3 hrs.
CMS 403 - Political Communication 3 hrs.
CMS 450 - Seminar in Communication Studies 3 hrs.

Students may count no more than three hours from their major towards the Campaigns and Elections minor.
