Organizational Communication Certificate

The Communication Studies Department offers a graduate certificate in organizational communication for those interested in additional or specialized training in communication to enhance any workplace. A graduate certificate in organizational communication provides students and professionals with an opportunity to broaden their theoretical and practical knowledge of communication in the workplace, keep up with changes in the field; meet new educational requirements for their jobs; or prepare for a new position.

Admission Requirements


  • Students must hold an earned baccalaureate degree or
  • Students must be currently pursuing a masters or doctoral degree.

All applications for a graduate certificate program must be submitted to the Graduate School. Students not seeking a degree must submit the “Approval for Non-Degree Enrollment in a Graduate Course” form to the Director of Graduate Admissions. The admissions committee makes admission recommendations based on evidence of holding, at a minimum, a baccalaureate degree from an institution approved by a recognized accrediting agency, and being in good standing at the last institution attended.

Program Requirements


*The student shall complete at least 12 semester hours with B or better in each course from the approved course list (see below).

*The student may repeat a class only one time if he/she received less than a B.

*The student shall complete requirements within four years.

*The student may transfer as many as three (3) credit hours of graduate credit in communication studies from other accredited institutions with the approval of the admissions committee, provided that the coursework falls within the four-year period allowed for the program.

Written Portfolio


Students must submit at least two papers from courses other than those listed above that contain significant research or review of literature relating to organizational communication. These will be submitted to the Director of Graduate Admissions and will be evaluated by organizational communication faculty.
