Master’s Degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences: Deaf Education Emphasis with a Concentration in Early Oral Intervention


The master’s degree in speech and hearing sciences: deaf education emphasis with a concentration in early oral intervention is a 14-month program of study. All students begin in June and complete the program of study in July of the following year. All coursework is delivered at an off-campus location: Magnolia Speech School and adjacent Magnolia Home in Jackson, MS. Concurrent center-based, home-based, and academic-based practicum experiences accompany each academic session. Some practicum experiences will be in the Jackson area and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Final advanced practicum usually occurs out of state. Students complete the following courses in their degree matriculation: SHS 601 , SHS 610 , SHS 611 , SHS 626 , SHS 629 , SHS 637 , SHS 638 , SHS 639 , SHS 649 , SHS 651 , SHS 653 , SHS 655 , SHS 657 , SHS 691 , SHS 692 , SHS 720 , or SHS 735 , and CD 628  or equivalent. A 3.0 GPA is required for graduation.
