TSL 552 - English in the World

The purpose of this course is to explore the significance of English as an international language and lingua franca from the perspectives of the fields of linguistics, sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, postcolonial studies, and English language teaching. In addition to readings on native and non-native varieties of English, topics related to educational linguistics will also be addressed in order to better understand common pedagogical problems and concerns related to the use of the English language as a lingua franca in international contexts.
