Ceramics Undergraduate Minor

Ceramics minor offers students across programs a hands-on, creative learning opportunity to explore one of the world’s most enduring and versatile materials. This program invites students to step away from the screen and engage in the transformative process of working with clay.

The curriculum is designed to foster creative expression and technical development in ceramics. Students learn traditional skills for working with clay including hand-building and wheel-throwing, while also exploring various methods for surface design, glazing, and kiln firing.

Whether you are an Engineering major seeking to develop hands-on material understanding, a Business major interested in the handcraft market, or a Psychology major interested in the therapeutic power of art, this minor provides a unique competitive edge and an opportunity to expand your degree through a minor in the ceramics arts.

Academic Policies and Requirements for Minors:

  • Art majors (BFA Graphic Design and Art BA) should consult with their advisor to ensure they take enough required art courses to comply with the University policy on shared hours between major and minor requirements. BFA Studio Art majors should pursue the Ceramics Track in the major, rather than this minor degree.
  • See University Academic Policies for Minors

Hours to Minor: 18 hours

Course Requirements (18 hours)

Note:

* ART 351  and ART 352  are prerequisites for ART 353 .
