University Requirements (3 hours)
First Year Experience (Major Area)
Must be taken first semester. Writing-Intensive (Major Area)
Speaking-Intensive (3 hours)

Must be taken Senior Year. Select 1 course: DEG 01. Major Area of Study Requirements (32-37 hours)
Music History Elective
Select 1 course: Music Literature Elective
Select 1 course: DEG 02. Additional Requirements (42-51 hours)
Ensemble
Ensemble must be taken for 6 semesters. Summers excluded. Major Instrument
Must be taken studying the same instrument for 6 semesters. Summers excluded. Must complete at least 1 semester at the 400-level. Select 12 hours: Select 1 option:
- Select one minor. 18-21 hrs.
- Select one certificate. 12-21 hrs.
- Select 9 hours of MED, MUP, or MUS electives and 9 hours of general electives. 18 hrs.

120 hours are needed to graduate with a BA in Music. Of the total hours applied to this degree, 30 hours must be in courses numbered at the 300 level or above. The student must earn at least 21 of the last 30 hours of course work and at least 12 hours in the major area of study from Southern Miss. See Residence Hour Requirements for more information. |
