The Working Fluency Badge requires 6 hours of 400-level credit in French or Spanish and a score of 7 or higher on the STAMPS 4S Test, or documentation of a level of B2 or Advanced Low with another nationally recognized test.
Skillsets
Outcome 1: Working fluency in a second language
Students will be able to handle basic communicative tasks for work, academic, or social situations. They can communicate clearly in multiple time frames, but their native language still interferes with the use of false cognates, literal translations, and paragraph structure, and their speech may include a large amount of self-correction.
Outcome 2: Knowledge and Understanding of World Cultures
Students will be able to:
- recognize the cultural diversity of the Hispanic or Francophone world,
- be able to compare the cultural diversity of the language they study to that of their own culture,
- be able to compare and contrast cultural practices and perspectives as they relate to diverse cultures that speak the language they study and their own native cultures, and
- be able to identify and discuss the importance of appreciating and respecting cultural differences.
Outcome 3: Critical thinking and collaboration
Students will:
demonstrate critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving abilities through advanced task-based language activities (i.e., creative skits, videos, websites, curriculum vitae, summaries, research papers, internship reports, student-led classes, oral presentations, etc.).
