Licensure: This program is designed to meet the licensure requirements of the State of Mississippi Department of Education. Students who plan to complete this program should consult the Teacher Education Program Requirements for program admission, progression, and teacher candidacy requirements. DEG 01. Major Area of Study Requirements (48 hours)
DEG 02. Secondary Subject Requirements (20-28 hours)
In addition to the major area of study, this program requires the completion of at least one concentrated secondary subject matter area. Each secondary subject matter area requires a prescribed set of courses requiring between 20-28 hours. However, because the degree plan includes several content-specific courses in the GEC and depending on the subject matter area selected, students must complete between 6 and 21 hours to satisfy the DEG 02 requirements. Options for secondary subject matter areas are listed below. Courses marked with an asterisk (*) satisfy a DEG 02 subject matter requirement and could also be used to satisfy a GEC requirement. All courses require a minimum grade of C. Remedial courses do not count toward subject matter requirements. Chemistry 7-12 (26 hours) – license code 185
