STEM Outreach - Foundational (non-credit) Badge


A workshop and field-based foundational badge that supports informal STEM engagement. Students will implement hands-on experiences facilitating outreach activities in diverse educational contexts.   

20-25 hours of workshop and field experiences.

Attend 5 Professional Development Workshops on the following topics: 

  • Importance of STEM Outreach 
  • Utilizing Effective Science Communication Strategies 
  • Implementing Informal Education 
  • Partnering with Diverse Communities 
  • Aligning STEM Outreach to Career Goals

Attend 5 STEM Outreach Badge Professional Learning Community (PLC) Meetings (For discussion and reflection) 

Complete a minimum of 5 Outreach events (e.g. give STEMonDemand lessons, support local community events focused on STEM outreach, serve as a mentor at a scientific conference)

Competency Assessment

Students will implement hands-on experiences facilitating outreach activities in diverse educational contexts.   

Assessments:  

  1. Students will self-assess and reflect on the role STEM outreach has in society and their career development. 

  1. Students will report scope of impact through recording the frequency and/or duration of direct engagement with outreach communities.
