The following sections were revised from the original Nursing Education Proposal: 1) Required Badge Courses, 2) Skillsets, and 3) Evaluation & Proficiency Activity. See sections below for this information.

Required Badge Courses

To complete a Nursing Education badge, the student will be required to complete the following three 3-credit nursing education courses: 1) NUR 610-Assessment and Evaluation in Nursing Education, 2) NUR 611-Curriculum and Teaching in Nursing, and 3) NUR 678-Role in Teaching. Students are required to earn a “B” or better in each course.

Progression Policy

Progression in the program requires a minimum grade of C in all courses and an overall GPA of 3.0 each semester. Failure to achieve a minimum grade of C in all courses and an overall GPA of 3.0 will deem the student ineligible to progress in the program and the student will be required to withdraw or be dismissed from the program. Students cannot earn a grade of C in more than two courses regardless of the GPA. Receiving the third C will deem the student ineligible to progress in the program and the student will be required to withdraw or be dismissed from the program. Students cannot earn a grade of Cin any course regardless of the GPA. Receiving a C- will deem the student ineligible to progress in the program and the student will be required to repeat the course if eligible. Students cannot earn a grade of D+, D, D, or F in any course regardless of the GPA. Receiving a grade of D+, D, or F will deem the student ineligible to progress in the program and the student will be required to withdraw or be dismissed from the program. Students who withdraw from the program may be eligible for readmission to the program. Students eligible for re-admission will be required to follow the current admission process as new applicants. Should an applicant be re-admitted they will be considered a new student and will be required to complete the entire curriculum.

Skillsets

Upon completion of the Nursing Education Badge, the student will develop a set of skillsets that will prepare the student to serve in the Nurse Educator Role in academic or healthcare settings. Overall, the student will have an opportunity to: 1) enhance their teaching role in an academic or healthcare setting, 2) apply nursing education theories and teaching strategies in educational settings, 3) develop and revise nursing curriculum, 4) assess and evaluate strategies of learning, and 5) recognize pertinent aspects of the nurse educator role.

Evaluation & Proficiency Assessment

In the courses, summative evaluation will continually be used to determine student’s progress in each course, through students’ completion of course assignments and discussion boards. Formative evaluation will be measured through assessment of final grades and student evaluations of the course. Course faculty will use these measures/methods to revise the course, when needed.

Upon completion of all badge courses, the student will complete a Proficiency Assessment that demonstrates synthesis of knowledge acquired through completing of the required courses. For the Proficiency Assessment, the student will submit a paper on the following components: 1) develop a curriculum for an undergraduate nursing program, 2) develop a syllabus for one course in the curriculum, 3) develop a teaching plan for a lecture of a classroom topic that is listed in the syllabus, including at least three objectives, content outline, and evaluation of selected teaching-learning strategies, 4) develop a test blueprint of a topic or module, including at least three learning objectives with 3-5 content areas, and four test questions per learning objective, and 5) discuss the role of the academic nurse educator in teaching, scholarship, service, and collegiality. Specific instructions on formatting the paper will be provided in the paper assignment.
