Environmental Statistics Badge

Advanced environmental science careers (i.e., those requirin M.S. or Ph.D.) require knowledge and familiarity with experimental design and analysis of increasingly complex datasets.  The following skills are increasingly more common in required qualifications for these jobs: “analytical skill set”, “ability to envision, plan, and implement field experiments”, “collect, collate and compile field data”, “develop and maintain hierarchical databases”, “conceptualize, develop, validate and parameterize empirical predictive models”.

USM has a diverse offering of environmentally oriented graduate degrees including Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences, Geology, Geography, Marine Science, Coastal Science, and Hydrographic Science.  Expertise in environmental statistics is required for all graduates in these degree plans.  This badge allows graduate advisors to implement custom course plans for their students to assist with statistical training appropriate to their fields of studies.

We also anticipate demand for this badge from individuals currently in environmental careers seeking to increase their skill sets.

This six hour badge requires students to select two courses from a diverse list of offerings from Hattiesburg and Coastal programs.  Several courses are offered online allowing enrollment from all USM campuses as well as off-campus students.
