Psychology MA (en route to PhD only)

Overview

The Master of Arts in Psychology is awarded en route to the doctoral degree in psychology across all emphasis areas. A thesis is required for all doctoral degree tracks. A non-thesis option is available for students not completing a doctoral degree. Students are not admitted directly to the MA Psychology program.

Admission Requirements

Students are admitted directly to a doctoral emphasis area in the School of Psychology. Admission applications for the MA program are not accepted.

Program Requirements and Academic Policies

The MA Psychology is completed en route to the doctorate. A thesis is required for all doctoral degrees in Psychology, however a non-thesis option is available for students not completing a doctoral degree. See General Degree Requirements and General Academic Information .

Course Requirements (38 hours)

Complete 9 hours from the course options listed below:

PSY 621 - Theories of Learning 3 hrs. or
PSY 716 - The Psychology of Cognition and Emotion 3 hrs. or
PSY 722 - Cognitive Processes 3 hrs.
PSY 624 - Advanced Behavioral Neuroscience 3 hrs. or
PSY 726 - Perception 3 hrs.
PSY 635 - Personality 3 hrs. or
PSY 679 - Advanced Developmental Psychology 3 hrs.
PSY 750 - Advanced Social Psychology 3 hrs.

Complete the remaining course requirements:

PSY 661 - Research Evaluation in the Behavioral Sciences 3 hrs.
PSY 662 - Quantitative Methods I 3 hrs. or
REF 762 - Quantitative Analysis II 3 hrs.
PSY 663 - Quantitative Methods II 3 hrs. or
REF 830 - Multivariate Analysis 3 hrs.
PSY 698 - Thesis 1-6 hrs. or Approved Elective 3-6 hrs.
