Child Advocacy Studies Minor

Academic Policies and Requirements for Minors:

Students must maintain a 2.50 Cumulative GPA and earn a minimum grade of C in each course within the minor.
Students must complete an application.
After completion of the CAST minor courses, students must complete a self-report measure.

Hours to Minor: 18 hours

Course Requirements

SWK 490 - Child Maltreatment and Advocacy: CAST 3 hrs.
SWK 494 - Social Work with Children and Families 3 hrs. OR
CJ 364 - Child Abuse and the Law 3 hrs.
Choose twelve (12) hours from the following courses, of which nine (9) hours must be from at least two (2) different disciplines and cannot be shared with the student’s major or other minor requirements, if applicable.

Psychosocial and Physical Development of Children and Adolescents

CD 350 - Child Development 3 hrs.
CD 251 - Infant Development 3 hrs.
CD 477 - Developmental Disabilities in Early Childhood 3 hrs. OR
PSY 477 - Developmental Disabilities in Early Childhood 3 hrs.
PSY 372 - Adolescent Psychology 3 hrs.
PSY 446 - Child and Adolescent Psychopathology 3 hrs.
PSY 482 - Moral Development in Childhood and Adolescence 3 hrs.
SWK 496 - Social Work Practice in Schools 3 hrs.

Substance Abuse and Intervention

Students may select only one course from this group.
