Program Curriculum


Licensure: This program is designed to meet the licensure requirements of the State of Mississippi Department of Education. Students who plan to complete this program should consult the Teacher Education Program Requirements  for program admission, progression, and teacher candidacy requirements.

Select 2 laboratory-based courses at the 300-400 level in Department of Biological Sciences.

BSC 492 - Special Problems I, II, III  may be substituted with departmental permission. Cannot use non-majors courses (BSC 392  or BSC 399 ).

DEG 04. Electives


If not completing Second Licensure Option, choose electives as needed with advisor’s approval. REF 400  or GLY 101  or CHE 471 /CHE 471L  recommended. (See Hours to Degree below.)

Hours to Degree


124 hours are needed to graduate with a BS in Biological Sciences (Licensure). At least 50 percent of the hours applied to a degree at The University of Southern Mississippi must be earned from a senior college, and 30 of these hours must be in courses numbered 300 or above. The student must earn at least 21 of the last 30 hours of course work and at least 12 hours in the major area of study from Southern Miss. See Residence Hour Requirements  for more information.
