Program Curriculum


DEG 01. Major Area of Study Requirements (40 hours)


Students select 36 hours, with a minimum of 12 hours in 3 of the 6 Colleges. No more than 6 hours completed under GEC 01-05 can count towards this distribution. A minimum of 18 hours must be 300 or 400 level, 6 in each College:

  • Select 12 hours from College 1 (6 must be 300/400 level)
  • Select 12 hours from College 2 (6 must be 300/400 level)
  • Select 12 hours from College 3 (6 must be 300/400 level)

DEG 02. Additional Requirements (18 hours)


One concentration of 18 hours minimum approved by program Director.

DEG 03. Electives


Choose electives as needed with adviser’s approval. (See Hours to Degree below)

Hours to Degree


120 hours are needed to graduate with a BLS in Liberal Studies. At least 50 percent of the hours applied to a degree at The University of Southern Mississippi must be earned from a senior college, and 45 of these hours must be in courses numbered 300 or above. The student must earn at least 21 of the last 30 hours of course work and at least 12 hours in the major area of study from Southern Miss. See Residence Hour Requirements  for more information.
