The School of Social Science and Global Studies provides students with the opportunity to explore a variety of fields that relate to the social, political, economic, and cultural dimensions of the world and the human experience. The school offers majors in anthropology; sociology; world languages; applied economics; legal studies and legal studies with a pre-law emphasis, and political science.  The school offers minors in these disciplines as well as campaigns and elections; diversity, equity, and inclusion; economic data analysis; and human rights. The school is also home to the Center for Human Rights and Civil Liberties and provides advising support to students interested in law school.

The World Languages program in the School of Social Science and Global Studies has established the Global Seal of Biliteracy Pathway to allow students to document their levels of language fluency with three micro-credentials.  These credentials may be taken individually, or they be stacked. Students do not need to be majors or minors to pursue the badges. Students may earn badges in more than one language.

The Functional Fluency Badge is available for French, Spanish, or German and requires 6 hours of 300-level credit in French, Spanish, or German and a score of 5 or higher on the STAMPS 4S Test, or documentation of a level of B1 or Intermediate Mid with another nationally recognized test. Students can take this badge in more than one language.

The Working Fluency Badge requires 6 hours of 400-level credit in French or Spanish and a score of 7 or higher on the STAMPS 4S Test, or documentation of a level of B2 or Advanced Low with another nationally recognized test.

The Global Seal of Biliteracy documents Professional Fluency in two languages, one of which must be English. This badge requires 7-9 hours of courses with the WL prefix, including the capstone course WL 490: Capstone to confirm the C1 professional level of fluency in English. Students can apply for the Global Seal of Biliteracy in any language in which a C1 or Advanced Mid level can be measured by an approved test or other approved credentials.
