The Department of Educational Research and Administration (ERA) offers most of its programs at the graduate level. The Research and Educational Foundations (REF) component of the department, however, offers coursework that supports USM’s undergraduate research initiative. REF 280 - Quantitative Literacy and REF 301 - Understanding Research are two courses that serve that function. ERA also offers coursework that supports undergraduate teacher education in areas of educational foundations and student assessment. Specifically, REF 400 - Public Education in the United States orients teacher-candidates to the profession and addresses the philosophy, history and sociology of education. REF 469 - Tests and Measurements introduces teacher-candidates to all forms of student evaluation and assessment, and addresses test construction. In addition, the Higher Education program offers a minor in Student Affairs in conjunction with Interdisciplinary Studies.
A Gold Card is not required for REF 400 and REF 469 .
