Master’s Degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences: Speech-Language Pathology Emphasis

The master’s degree in speech and hearing sciences: speech-language pathology emphasis is a clinical degree designed to meet the academic and practicum requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in speech-language pathology awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The following courses are to be taken by candidates for the master’s degree in this emphasis area: SHS 513 , SHS 516 , SHS 518 , SHS 519 , SHS 601 , SHS 642 , SHS 643 , SHS 644 , SHS 646 , SHS 648 , SHS 650 , SHS 687 , SHS 694 , SHS 695 , SHS 702 , SHS 712 , SHS 716 , SHS 719 . A 3.0 GPA is required for graduation. Students may earn an M.A. or M.S. degree.

Practicum Requirements

A student in speech-language pathology or audiology must complete practicum in three different settings. Off-campus sites must be approved by the faculty adviser, and students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and approval of the faculty before beginning off-campus practicum. Students must complete all of the required practicum clock hours before they can graduate.
