Computer Science (Computational Science) MS


Overview


The School of Computing Sciences and Computer Engineering offers the M.S. degree in Computer Science with emphasis in Computational Science to students who are transitioning from other branches of science, e.g. Physics or Mathematics, or from Engineering Technology programs, to Computer Science. The purpose of this program is to train students, who have interdisciplinary background, in computational principles to enable them to either participate in synergistic, multi-disciplinary research or find placement in the computing industry.

Admission Requirements


A student applying for admission to this program will normally have a B.S. degree from a computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering technology, or closely related program. Minimum course work required for admission includes the equivalent of CSC 101, CSC 102, CSC 307, MAT 385, MAT 326, and PHY 351 or PHY 361.

Program Requirements and Academic Policies


A student must complete a minimum of 36 hours of coursework, including a thesis (CSC 698) or a capstone project (CSC 699), approved by a 3-member committee. The chair of this committee must be from the School (one member may be from outside the School). Additionally, a student must complete certain required and elective courses (see below). At least 18 hours must be at the 600 level or higher.
