Audiology AuD


Overview


This eleven-semester, four-year program leads to the Clinical Doctorate of Audiology (Au.D.) and is accredited by Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Qualified graduates may apply for state licensure and the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Admission Requirements


In addition to the admission requirements stated in the Admission Requirements and Procedures  section of the bulletin, applicants should have completed a bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences that includes one biology lab science and either a physics or chemistry lab science. Three letters of recommendation and GRE scores should also be submitted.

Individuals with a degree in another discipline should contact the School of Speech and Hearing Sciences for information regarding “leveling-in” courses that should be completed prior to applying for graduate studies.

Applications should include up to four, 26-second videos using ZeeMee. Applicants create an account at zeemee.com, then download the app to their smartphone to record their videos. Videos should cover the following topics:

  • an introduction that includes the applicant’s name, undergraduate school, major, and a fun fact
  • how the applicant became interested in audiology
  • how the applicant became interested in Southern Miss
  • additional information the applicant would like to share (optional)

Once a ZeeMee profile and videos are created, applicants copy and paste their ZeeMee link to the Southern Miss online application form in the allotted space. Contact kyle@zeemee.com or ethan@zeemee.com for technical support as needed.

Program Requirements and Academic Policies


A mandatory two-day orientation is held by the School of Speech and Hearing Sciences for new graduate students each fall prior to the beginning of classes. Second year students are required to pass a Qualifying Examination, and third year students are required to pass a Comprehensive Examination. There is no thesis or dissertation requirement. A Capstone is included in the curriculum.

First, second, and third year students complete practica in the on-campus Audiology clinic or at other area or regional sites. The fourth year is an intensive externship arranged with the off-campus placement director.
